What feelings do you conjure up when thinking of ‘The Boss’? Resentment? Awe? An overwhelming urge to drag Courtney Cox up on stage and start Dancing In The Dark? Well the talented entrants for this year’s Reed.co.uk Short Film Competition have had to channel those feelings into a 3-minute slice of filmmaking gold, and we’re going to show off the 12 finalists at the May Reel Presents. Check out more about the competition here, and Production Companies take note – many of these entrants will be unsigned and unseen, so get your talent-grabbing-sticks readied!

‘That’s the guest slot, what of the rest of it’ we hear you cry. Well fear not, our standard ‘Signed’ and ‘Unsigned’ 30-minute slots will be present and correct, filled to the brim with unmitigated creative flair and visual splendour. Also intact will be the price tag (£FREE), the drinks (£FREE) and the sofas (£COMFY). It’ll still be in the back room of the marvellous Café 1001 and we’ll still be showing a brain-massaging mix of short film, pop promos, fashion films, content, virals and experimentals. In fact, the only thing that’s different is the date – for this month and next we’ll be hosting the event on the SECOND MONDAY OF THE MONTH. Don’t blame us, blame Bank Holidays. And even then, don’t blame them because they’re brilliant and fun.

So here’s the checklist for people too lazy busy to read those first two paragraphs:

Remember, the only thing we ask of you is that you grab your ticket beforehand and shout about it to your pals, colleagues and loved-ones. That’s right, we want YOU to spread the coolness.

For those who haven’t been before, The Reel Presents is our monthly showcase of the very best work we’ve seen and posted in the past couple of months. Split between signed and un-signed talent (so you lovable production companies can pluck the fresh fruit), we show a fast-paced mixture of short films, pop promos, fashion/experimental films, branded content and anything else screenable and awesome. It’s all projected in the back room of Café 1001 (comfy sofas and relaxed atmosphere guaranteed) and we even pop a bit of dosh behind the bar to help lubricate your sense-receptors. All in all, a good night.
